Software and security are two sides to the same coin

You cannot have good cost effective software without healthy security knowledge and practices.

Much of security practices can be cost effectively automated using software an AI developed techniques.

Independent software engineering and security expertise.

Musmato is the independent practice of Pieter Claassen. I design, build and assess software systems where quality, security and operational reliability matter.

My work combines software engineering, cybersecurity, technology risk and practical use of AI to improve delivery without abandoning engineering discipline.

What I do

Software Engineering

AI-enhanced software development, architecture, integration, testing and modernisation for systems that need to be secure, maintainable and fit for purpose.

Security

Security architecture, threat modelling, technical risk assessment, incident analysis, due diligence and practical security improvement.

Fractional CISO

Senior security leadership without the cost or organisational overhead of a full-time CISO.

For organisations that need experienced security direction (who often have not grown large enough to employ a fulltime CISO), Musmato provides fractional CISO support covering security strategy, technology risk, architecture, management and board advice, regulatory direction and oversight of the internal security function.

The objective is not to replace the people doing day-to-day security and compliance work, but to make sure they are working on the right risks, with the right priorities and with clear senior direction.

Research and writing

Technical investigations, security commentary and academic research on risk, trust, reputation and technology.

Why work with Musmato?

Musmato is deliberately small. You work directly with the person analysing the problem, designing the solution and taking responsibility for the technical outcome.

That means fewer layers, less translation between sales, analysts and developers, and a tighter connection between requirements, architecture, implementation, testing and security, basically a less expensive, more capable product.

AI is used where it improves efficiency and coverage, but engineering remains controlled through specifications, review, testing, security analysis and human technical judgement.

About me

I am a trained Metallurgical and Chemical engineer with a strong software development background, security practitioner and researcher. My work spans software architecture and development, cybersecurity, technology risk and academic research.

I work directly with clients on technically difficult problems where understanding the system matters as much as delivering the solution.
